Blog Oct 30, 2012
The Garage48 event series is a worldwide 48-hours hackathon started in Estonia in April 2010. It is now present in Northern Europe (covering countries such as Russia, Ukraine, Latvia, Finland) and Africa (including countries like: Ghana, Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya and South Africa).

During this year’s Garage48 event in Riga on October 26-28, in what organizers called “breaking some records”, 35 ideas were pitched, and from these ideas 14 has been prototyped. These ideas include the utilization of the S Pen stylus as a musical instrument and as a way to input notes for music sheets.

Samsung Developers was there to help teams in their development and to present the latest S Pen SDK.

The audience’s favourite was the FortaNota: an application that allows the user to type music sheets notes via direct input from the microphone or by putting them manually both by drawing them with the S Pen or via the on screen keyboard. FortaNota has also been awarded by Rubylight with a special award)

The “most fun project” award went to Visound, a GALAXY Note 10.1 application that visualizes music generated by the S Pen and multitouch (it also has been awarded with a special award from Skype and a special award from Samsung).

The overall winner was Interactive Sales Training: an online editor for easy creation of mini-games to use during sales, customer service and phone support trainings.
