The Samsung Developer Program (SDP) has a new home!

for several years, the samsung developer program has resided at samsungdevelopers.com. last week, we moved to our new home, and will begin working on new features to make developing with samsung an even more rewarding experience. one of the primary goals for our site and the developer program is to give you easy access to sdks, technical documentation, and tools. we also want to help you understand the best way to be successful creating and promoting your products and solutions. that’s why we created programs such as the developer discount program, galaxy store badge service, and our recently released cloud device farm. all our existing programs are available for you on the new site, available from your dashboard. what you need to know single account login moving to developer.samsung.com gives us the ability to use the samsung account single-sign-on (sso) platform. with your one account, you can access your seller office account, galaxy apps account, and now the samsung developer program (sdp). if you already have a samsung account and it uses a different email address from your sdp account, you will be prompted to create a new sdp account. once you are logged in under this new account, send us a customer support ticket (using zendesk) and we will manually link your accounts. if you are a developer that uses the galaxy store badge service, you will receive a separate message with instructions on how to manage your badge account under your new samsung account. if you do not already have a samsung account, visit the signup page. we suggest using the same email address for the samsung account that you used when signing up for sdp. resources & useful links please take some time to look through the features of your new samsung developer program account. we’re continuously adding new technical content, as well as announcing webinars and in-person workshops. bookmark these links to ensure you’re always getting the most up-to-date info: developer support ticket system galaxy store badge service developer discount program sdks and apis events save the date: #sdc18 also, we’ve announced the dates for the 2018 samsung developer conference, to be held at moscone west in san francisco. mark your calendars november 7-8 for this year’s event which is already shaping up to be the best one yet! join the facebook event to stay up to date with #sdc18 registration news and announcements.

Samsung Developers Top 10 Moments of 2021

another year will soon be past and, like many of you, we’re looking forward to next year. we’ll be taking some time the next few weeks to be with our families, and will be back in 2022 with more blogs, podcasts, product announcements, and ways for you to succeed with galaxy store and samsung platforms. with the end-of-year holidays upon us, we’re stopping to reflect on what we did in 2021. even with covid making a disruption in everyone’s lives, we’re still here to help developers find answers and hopefully, also find success. here are some of our most memorable moments. 10. developer portal refresh brought a modern look and support for mobile we’ve been working for several years to bring samsung’s developer portal into a single web infrastructure. we moved content from multiple servers and cloud services into a cms that uses open standards and a responsive design for mobile devices. we pored through a decade of content to make sure it was still timely and accurate for your needs today. we integrated the developer forums to use the same samsung account login for both the developer portal and seller portal to give you a more seamless experience. in october of this year, we made a ux refresh to the site and the most amazing thing is how easy that process went. there were no late nights in the weeks prior to launch. we were able to test the new ux in a sandbox rigorously. then the deployment to production happened almost instantaneously. we spent less time worrying about our website and more time creating the content you need to do your work. we understand how important the samsung developer portal is to you and your work. that’s why we took the time to ensure a smooth transition as we made major infrastructure changes. 9. monthly updates keep developers up-to-date on new galaxy store features the galaxy store product management team began publishing monthly newsletters to enlighten developers of the latest features and improvements to seller portal. these updates also usually appear as blog posts in the first week or two of the month. some of the major announcements include: staged app rollouts (october) local currencies in settlement and financial reports (september) private beta testing (july) galaxy store developer api (april) look for more exciting improvements in 2022 as galaxy store continues to innovate. 8. unpacked events bring exciting new product announcements galaxy unpacked in january 2021 brought announcements of the galaxy buds pro, galaxy s21, and the new galaxy smarttag. the event highlighted samsung’s design concepts with one ui 3 and integrated experiences from partners like microsoft and google. the august galaxy unpacked event brought announcements of galaxy z fold3 and galaxy z flip3 phones. these devices have many new hardware and software features for developers to build upon. this blog post highlighted many of the ways that developers can implement features supporting flex mode and s pen remote, while ensuring that users have a seamless experience with app continuity. the most anticipated announcement of the august galaxy unpacked event was the unveiling of galaxy watch4, featuring wear os, powered by samsung. as with the tizen-powered galaxy watch devices, samsung released a new tool, galaxy watch studio converter, to help existing designers bring their watch faces to wear os. designers could also start a new watch face project from scratch with the newly-released watch face studio tool. 7. remote test lab updates allow developers to experience the latest hardware as new devices are announced, developers can use the remote test lab (rtl) to ensure that their apps work properly on the new version of one ui as well as different screen resolutions and pixel densities. in 2021, the rtl development team added support for foldables and galaxy s21 devices, allowing developers to ensure their apps work correctly before the devices are available to consumers. the rtl team also added support for android studio. in september, thousands of devices were added in data centers around the world to ensure that a compatible device is always available. as part of this release, rtl was re-engineered to work exclusively in the chrome browser, so that no external software is needed to test apps on all the latest devices. 6. samsung developer forums activity the samsung developer forums, based on the popular open-source discourse project, were introduced in january 2020, replacing an aging forum infrastructure that didn’t work well on mobile devices. by using the same samsung account authentication method as the samsung developers site, we’re able to provide a nearly-seamless experience across different hosts and platforms. since their introduction, we’ve seen large numbers of visitors stop by the forums with questions. community manager ron liechty has more than 25 years of experience in managing healthy communities—his knowledge and guidance keeps the forums a useful resource for developers. some of these visitors have become our best community members, providing valuable feedback to their peers as well as helping to moderate spam and malicious content. 5. supporting game developers in 2021 games are a noticeable part of the galaxy store experience and we work with many partners and internal teams to ensure that gamers have a great experience on galaxy devices. the galaxy gamedev team works closely with some of the top publishers and developers to improve performance of top titles on mobile. this team creates tools that provide great detail on the performance of the cpu and gpu during intense moments of gameplay. the gamedev team then documents their efforts in a series of best practices and blog posts to help developers everywhere. in addition to our internal team work, we frequently work with our partners at arm to deliver relevant content for game developers. this summer, we published and promoted a number of educational articles, webinars, and training series in cooperation with the arm developer team. best practices for mobile game developers and artists new vulkan extensions for mobile: maintenance extensions new vulkan extensions for mobile: legacy support extensions new game changing vulkan extensions for mobile: descriptor indexing new game changing vulkan extensions for mobile: buffer device address new game changing vulkan extensions for mobile: timeline semaphores mike barnes from the gamedev team, together with eric cloninger from the samsung developers team, presented at the virtual gdc2021 event in july. gdc is an important event for all of us at samsung and we hope to see you all there at the live event in march 2022. 4. new voices appeared on samsung developers podcast, season 2 shortly before the covid-19 pandemic changed our lives, tony morelan from samsung developers attended a podcasting event and came back to the office inspired to start a podcast. he lined up guests from internal teams and important partners. everyone had a great time participating and it gave us a way to continue delivering quality content to developers. as 2020 turned to 2021, we continued bringing interesting guests from across the mobile design and development ecosystem. we used the podcast to talk about the upcoming virtual samsung developer conference and chat with the people that made the event a success. here are some of the highlights from season 2 of the samsung developers podcast: drazen stojcic, urarity – watch faces, design tan nguyen, butterfly-effected gmbh – galaxy themes, marketing, licensing the samsung internet advocacy team – web standards, privacy, foldable devices we’re still hoping for a return to days where we can travel and meet in person, but until that time comes, please join us in listening to these industry veterans and top developers on the samsung developers podcast. season 3 begins in early 2022. 3. blog series instructs readers on design and successful marketing without live events the past two years, we have searched for new ways to continue delivering timely and helpful advice to mobile app designers and developers. as mentioned previously, we worked with arm this year to bring great technical content front and center. we also worked with our network of top designers, developers, and thought leaders on concepts that will help you succeed on galaxy store and in creating better experiences for your users: better for all – in this blog series, we talked with leading designers and experts to help understand the increasingly important concepts behind the diversity, equality, and inclusion movement. this series discussed aspects of language used in apps, themes, and watch designs. it also highlights important guidelines to ensure apps and web sites are accessible to users with sight, mobility, and hearing impairments. better for all: mobile accessibility better for all: inclusive policies with daniel appelquist better for all: equal accessibility better for all: bringing diversity to design with eglantina hasaj and manpreet kaur better for all: diversity in design better for all: developing and designing for diversity refresh for success – it’s not enough to simply submit a title to a digital marketplace and assume success will follow and continue without extra effort. in this series, top galaxy store designers and developers talk about how they maintain their product lines to ensure a steady flow of revenue and new customers. refresh for success: maintain quality themes design with olga gabay from zeru studio refresh for success: improve your process to keep designs fresh with tan nguyen from butterfly-effected, gmbh refresh for success: improve your process and de-clutter your galaxy store with drazen stojcic from urarity prime time design – finding success in designing new products is an intensely unique and personal process. the prime time design series includes interviews with some of the most unique people creating for galaxy store. read how these talented people inspire themselves and how they convert that inspiration into action. prime time design: unpacking the creative process with ramon campos from friss in motion prime time design: unpacking the creative process with pedro machado from health face prime time design: unpacking the creative process with john shih from x9 studio strategies for success – tony morelan was a successful watch face designer before coming to work with the samsung developers team. we’re grateful for his knowledge of design as well as how to turn designs into revenue. in this four-part series, tony points out steps to creating successful galaxy store product submissions. strategies for success: selling your apps strategies for success: understanding consumer trends strategies for success: building your fan base strategies for success: making your brand successful 2. best of galaxy store awards highlight successful developers the galaxy store app on your mobile device is more than just an app. behind the scenes, there is a team of developers, product managers, business leaders, and security experts devoted to ensuring the best possible online experience for consumers in 180 countries. because of their dedication, developers and designers have a great platform for monetizing their work. each year, the samsung developers team works with the galaxy store operations and business development teams to determine the best games, apps, and themes based on revenue, downloads, and impact to consumers. the result is the best of galaxy store awards. in 2018 and 2019, the best of galaxy store awards were presented live, on stage, at the samsung developer conference (sdc). without a live event in 2020 or 2021, the samsung developers team decided to continue the tradition of highlighting and awarding our top galaxy store products. even without an in-person event, we used a live premiere on youtube to have a single moment in time to celebrate with the winners. tony morelan emceed the event, but he had a lot of help from ron liechty, jeanne hsu, susie perez, and shelly wu. we thank them for their hard work. we hope you’ll enjoy watching! look for the “best of galaxy store” sash on apps, games, themes, and watch faces in galaxy store to know that you’re getting a truly unique experience. 1. discovering new opportunities at sdc21 each year, the samsung developer conference is the culmination of an incredible amount of planning and work by hundreds of people. even though the event was virtual in 2021, there was still a huge volume of work. instead of preparing for a live audience, our teams practiced in front of a galaxy phone on a tripod (really). instead of building booths and planning meals, we built a website and social media campaigns to reach a larger audience. eric cloninger and tony morelan kicked off the promotion for sdc21 with a podcast featuring a previous sdc speaker, chris shomo. before the conference, visitors were invited to create whimsical caricatures of themselves using the mysdcstack mini-site and submit their designs to social media. by participating in the event website, watching sessions, and trying the code labs, visitors would earn points toward a prize drawing after sdc. relive the experience of sdc21 by watching the keynote or any of the highlight sessions and technical talks by viewing this playlist wrapping up when sdc is finished, our team takes a collective deep breath, happy to be done. it is a satisfying experience to pull off a big industry event. we don’t know yet how we’ll handle live events, but we remain optimistic that some will occur. we are making plans and we hope we’ll be able to see you, somewhere, in 2022. 🤞 take care. stay warm (or cool). best wishes to you all and happy new year!

Remembering the Top Moments of SDC from Years Past

it's almost time again for the samsung developer conference (aka sdc). after a few years of limited travel, virtual-only events, and nasal swabs, we're excited to get back to a live event, if only for one day. as you may have seen on this site and in our social media accounts, sdc is scheduled for october 12, at the moscone conference center in san francisco. the keynote address and technical sessions from the live event will be streamed via youtube, and there will be additional virtual content available to view beginning october 13, on the conference web site. sdc is a special time for us at the samsung developers team worldwide. internally, we have members in many countries: south korea, philippines, the united kingdom, vietnam, brazil, poland, bangladesh, and the united states. we're all excited to come together each year to bring useful and informative content to you. we enjoy planning and staging the event each year and we all have great memories. in this post, we'll share some of our favorite experiences with you. behind the scenes we understand the boring details behind the scenes isn't as exciting to most, but for our events team, the challenge of planning and pulling off a major event is a thrill. most years, planning for sdc begins almost the moment the previous event is completed. the planners begin executing contracts with the venue, caterers, and the experiential vendor that handles all the small details. they meet weekly on a conference call, usually in the evenings for those in the us to talk with our counterparts in south korea. as the months move along, the teams secure contractors with audio-visual teams to run the massive wall of displays on the keynote stage, as well as the cameras in the rooms where sessions are held. we look through dozens of clothing catalogs to find apparel for attendees as well as employees. during these times, we plan out the social media notices, come up with topics for blog posts, and design the email campaigns that go out to hundreds of thousands of developers. we discuss the colors of signs in great detail to make sure each shade is exactly the right color. we talk to the technical teams to understand which new tech is ready for developers to use. we track down guest speakers from other companies to show how samsung works with so many partners. as the months go by, we're working more and more on sdc tasks. a few days prior to showtime, you will see many of our team on-site at the venue, setting up demo stations, wiping down counters, and making sure everything is "just right," so that you're amazed the moment you walk through those doors. best of galaxy store awards beginning in 2018, the samsung developers team started the best of galaxy store awards program as a way to show our appreciation for those developers and designers who bring their products to galaxy store. some of the top names in the world of gaming, productivity, and social media have received the awards. to name a few: riot games' league of legends: wild rift (2021 best strategy game) epic games' fortnite (2020 game of the year) spotify (2020 bixby capsule of the year) gameloft asphalt 9 (2019 best racing game) tiktok (2019 best social app) disney heroes (2018 best game) best of galaxy store winners at sdc while the 2018 and 2019 awards were presented live at sdc, the covid pandemic required us to make the awards show a virtual event. you can watch the 2020 and 2021 awards on youtube. the 2022 awards are scheduled for december 6, 2022, on youtube. stay tuned to the samsung developers channels on twitter, facebook, linkedin, and youtube to watch the awards show when it premieres. for a full list of samsung best of galaxy store awards winners, click here. before and after hours sdc isn't just all business though—the organizers and attendees also love to have fun. before the keynote, attendees could join groups stretching and going for a run through the city streets. others opted for calm and quiet with yoga at the expo hall stage. staying fit at sdc a tech conference wouldn't be complete without an after-hours party and sdc is no different. in 2014, the sdc crowd went to san francisco's famed exploratorium, where they experimented with science projects among tables of excellent food and drinks. attendees in 2016 experienced the beautiful asian art museum in san francisco. in 2017, attendees walked virtually through a murder mystery with samsung gear vr headsets. the 2019 sdc brought more excitement to the after-hours party. as the event was held at the end of october, the theme was "day of the dev," playing on the name of the holiday celebrated in november. a vr-powered interactive journey led players through a spooky experience, while halloween-themed goodies were available throughout the expo hall. a foggy mist permeated the place, while characters from the vr journey appeared in real life to the delight of the crowd. day of the dev at sdc technical sessions no matter your interests, if you're into tech, sdc probably has a topic that will pique your curiosity. whether you are into mobile design, voice control, smart devices, enterprise security, streaming media, or a good old-fashioned shoot-em-up game, you will find plenty of technical sessions to satisfy your need to know more. foldables and security are popular topics at sdc after you've taken in the experts' ideas in the technical sessions, you can start building your own ideas on samsung's platforms in the code lab area of the expo hall. at the code lab, you can talk with the actual developers of many of samsung's best products and learn from them. this interactive experience is also available to anyone at any time on the samsung developers web site. keynote and spotlight session the keynote presentation is always the subject of great speculation on the internet for days prior to sdc. samsung electronics president and ceo dj koh is a favorite each year. do you remember the 2018 sdc at moscone west, when senior vice president justin denison walked on stage to present the galaxy fold, the first foldable mobile device? that is one of many exciting moments on the first day of the event. revealing the galaxy fold the sdc keynote includes other memorable moments, such as the announcement of one ui, which brought a sensible and consistent design ethos to samsung mobile and wearable devices. bixby cto adam cheyer used his time on stage to show the power of ai, while also amazing and amusing the audience with his sleight-of-hand. the second day starts off with the spotlight session. the spotlight session is where samsung focuses on companies making a successful partnership with samsung platforms and products. compared to the flash and excitement of the keynote, the spotlight session is where executives and developers share their experiences with their peers. spotlight session highlights—behind the scenes with vitalik buterin; on stage with tim sweeney and john hanke some of the more memorable moments of the spotlight sessions include hosting a fireside chat of games and how to monetize them on mobile platforms. this session included epic games ceo tim sweeney and niantic labs ceo john hanke. another memorable spotlight session brought ethereum co-founder vitalik buterin to the stage with samsung's john jun to talk about the possibilities of blockchain for mobile devices. one final memory of the sdc spotlight session that's special to those of us on the samsung developers team, aside from putting all this together for you, was from 2018. the week before the event, one of the teams' members proposed to use the note9 with s pen to take a photo on stage and send the photo to twitter. in three days, they had the prototype working and tested. the team convinced vp yoon lee to perform this live demo on stage to close the event. as you can see below, the demo worked flawlessly. wrapping up after sdc is finished, the samsung developers team is there to put everything away. demo machines are disassembled and our booth is sent to the warehouse. we pack up leftover t-shirts and make sure we left the venue cleaner than we found it. after that, we have a well-earned party for ourselves and a good night's sleep. thank you for reading through our memories of sdc events in the past. please join us online, october 12, 2022, at 10 am pt, for the next samsung developer conference keynote. let us know your favorite moments from sdc. join us on twitter, facebook, linkedin, and youtube to continue the discussion.

Introducing the Visual Studio for Mac Tizen Extension

i am very pleased to announce the release of the tizen extension for visual studio for mac. there are tons of mac users out there, and until now it has been tricky to use mac machines to develop tizen .net applications. visual studio for mac extension for tizen was introduced at the samsung developer conference 2019 held on oct 29-30 in san jose, ca, and is now available. find an extension in your visual studio for mac the extension is provided through an extension manager in visual studio for mac. find visual studio for mac extension for tizen located under ide extensions: installation guide check out this guide for information about prerequisites and installation. prerequisites includes an important notice about installing oracle java development kit (jdk) 8 or openjdk 12 to use tizen baseline sdk. be sure to use the correct version, or you may have trouble installing and using the extension. with the new tizen extension, it should now be less tricky to develop tizen .net applications on a mac. mac users, try it and let us know what you think! all of your feedback is valuable to us. please leave us your comments at tizen.net@samsung.com.

thanks to everyone who came to samsung developer conference last week or tuned in to the livestream! here were some of our favorite moments that weren't covered in the day 1 and day 2 recaps. code lab code lab sat in the center of tech square and allowed devs to get hands-on experience with the latest sdks and developer tools. samsung engineers were there for support and fun coding challenges gave attendees the chance to win exclusive prizes. penup the penup app is a social network for designers on the galaxy smartphone. you can learn how to draw digitally by tracing on top of a video clip or background image – it's a cool way to turn photos into masterpieces! the penup team secured two digital artists for sdc19. the artists roamed around and used a tab s6 and s pen to sketch attendees and capture the action at sdc19. there were also great tutorials on the s pen and s pen sdk in tech square! laugh and learn senior developer evangelist tony morelan and comedian corey rosen had a high-energy comedy and improv presentation on day 1 called galaxy watch face design from concept to completion. attendees and designers collaborated in real time to create an interactive galaxy watch face. it was a fun experiment that demonstrated how easy it is to design without coding. the audience was able to quickly create a playful watch face. fit @ sdc one theme of sdc19 was collaboration. samsung is forging new partnerships with brands to help devs have more tools at their disposal and reach a wider audience. two such partners are under armour and skimble, and each morning they put together a wellness activity that featured their new galaxy store apps. day 1: yoga-centric exercise class with skimble this class was led by a trainer from made for samsung partner skimble. yoga mats and samsung galaxy watch active2s were available for attendees, and they could download the workout trainer by skimble app to follow along with a samsung-specific workout. everyone was able to monitor their heart rate on the watch while getting their move on! day 2: fun run/walk with under armour under armour organized a two-mile walk or three-mile run for attendees before the conference. samsung galaxy watch active2s were given to participants and synced with the map my run app to track their distance, pace, and calorie burn. devs, we hope that sdc19 inspired you to continue innovating. from troubleshooting to new platform training, the samsung developer program is always here to help. check out our post-event site with more highlights, photos, and videos of sdc19. we hope to see you next year!
