Samsung Internet: U.S. Privacy Notice

Samsung Electronics America, Inc. and its parent, subsidiaries, and affiliates (collectively “Samsung,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) respect your concerns about privacy. This U.S. Privacy Notice applies to the personal information we collect through the Samsung Internet browser (“Samsung Internet”). It does not apply to information collected by other services, apps or websites provided by Samsung or its affiliated entities.

In this U.S. Privacy Notice, we describe the types of information collected through Samsung Internet, how we may use the information, with whom we may share it and the choices available to you regarding our use of the information. We also describe the measures we take to safeguard the information and tell you how to contact us about our privacy practices.

Information We Obtain

Through Samsung Internet, we may obtain information about you in various ways. The types of personal information we may obtain include:

  • Samsung Internet browsing history (such as visited websites, search keywords and bookmarks);

  • Samsung Account ID;

  • if you choose to enable the Samsung Internet Quick Suggest feature, limited Web page content (including page title, header information, and keywords from visited Web pages);

  • if you choose to use the Samsung Internet Autofill Forms feature, payment card information, which will be stored on your device; and

  • device information, such as device model, operating system version, advertising identifiers (including Google Ad ID), device settings (including language and lock settings), device status information (including connections with other devices), mobile network operator, mobile country code, app usage information and other device identifiers.

Through Samsung Internet, we may obtain personal information that you provide through other Samsung and third-party devices, apps and online features and services, including your cross-platform and cross-device online activities. We also may collect other information about you, your devices and apps, and your use of Samsung Internet in ways that we describe to you at the time of collection or otherwise with your consent.

Automated Collection Of Data

When you use Samsung Internet, we, as well as certain third parties that provide content, advertising, or other functionality, may use cookies, web beacons, and other technologies to collect information about your device and your use of Samsung Internet. A “cookie” is a text file that websites send to a visitor’s computer or other Internet-connected device to uniquely identify the visitor’s browser or to store information or settings in the browser. A “web beacon,” also known as an Internet tag, pixel tag or clear GIF, links web pages to web servers and their cookies and may be used to transmit information collected through cookies back to a web server.

The information we obtain in this manner may include, identifiers associated with your devices, types of devices, web browser characteristics, device and operating system type and characteristics, language preferences, clickstream data, your interactions with Samsung Internet (such as the web pages you visit, links you click and features you use), dates and times of your use of Samsung Internet, and other information about your use of Samsung Internet. Among other purposes, these technologies help us (1) remember your information so you will not have to re-enter it; (2) track and understand how you use and interact with Samsung Internet; (3) tailor Samsung Internet around your preferences; (4) measure the usability of Samsung Internet; (5) understand the effectiveness of our communications; and (6) otherwise manage and enhance Samsung Internet.

The Samsung Internet privacy and security settings allow you to manage how your device shares certain device data with Samsung and third parties, including how to restrict cookies from collecting information about your browsing history. Samsung Internet is not designed to respond to “do not track” signals. Please note that without cookies you may not be able to use all of the features of Samsung Internet.

Third-Party Web Analytics Services

Through Samsung Internet, we may collect certain information about your online activities on websites and connected devices over time and across Samsung and third-party websites, devices, apps and other online features and services. We may use third-party analytics services on Samsung Internet, including Google Analytics. The service providers that administer these analytics services help us to analyze your use of Samsung Internet and improve Samsung Internet. The information we obtain may be disclosed to or collected directly by these providers and other relevant third parties who use the information, for example, to evaluate use of Samsung Internet, help administer Samsung Internet and diagnose technical issues. How We Use the Information We Obtain

We may use the information we obtain through Samsung Internet to:

  • provide you with the Samsung Internet services, including those requiring a Samsung Account, such as Quick Suggest;

  • communicate with you about Samsung Internet;

  • if you choose to use the Samsung Internet Autofill Forms feature to store your payment card information on your device, provide an improved online payment experience;

  • if you choose to enable the Samsung Internet News Push or Quick Suggest features, provide you with customized notifications, content, alerts, offers, promotions, marketing information, communications and advertisements in connection with Samsung and third-party products and services based on your interests;

  • if you choose to use the Samsung Customization Service, provide more relevant results through the Customization Service based on your Samsung Internet browsing history;

  • if you choose to use Samsung Cloud, sync your bookmarked webpages accessed through Samsung Internet across your Samsung devices;

  • operate, evaluate and improve our business (including developing new products and services; enhancing and improving our products and services; managing our communications; analyzing our products, services and consumer base; performing data analytics; performing accounting, auditing and other internal functions; and performing service operation and maintenance);

  • protect against, identify and prevent fraud and other criminal activity, claims and other liabilities; and

  • comply with and enforce applicable legal requirements, relevant industry standards and our policies, including this U.S. Privacy Notice, the Samsung Privacy Policy and the Samsung Internet Terms and Conditions.

We may combine information we obtain about you for the purposes described above. We also may use the information we obtain in other ways for which we provide specific notice at the time of collection or otherwise with your consent.

Online Tracking And Interest-Based Advertising and Recommendations

Through Samsung Internet, if you enable the News Push or Quick Suggest features, both we and certain third parties may collect information about your online activities over time and across Samsung and third-party devices, apps, websites and other online services to provide you with advertising and recommendations about products and services tailored to your individual interests. To learn how to opt out of ad network interest-based advertising in the U.S., please visit http://www.aboutads.info/choices and http://www.networkadvertising.org/choices/. Where required by applicable law, we will obtain your consent for the processing of your personal information for direct marketing purposes. Certain notices, promotions, marketing information and advertisements may be based on your location relevant to participating stores or businesses. You must consent to Samsung Internet’s collection of your location data by enabling location detection on your device to participate in this program.

To opt out of receiving interest-based advertising and recommendations from Samsung Internet through the News Push or Quick Suggest features, please adjust your Samsung Internet Privacy / Extension settings.

Information Sharing

We may share your personal information with our subsidiaries and affiliates and with service providers who perform services for us. We do not authorize our service providers to use or disclose the information except as necessary to perform services on our behalf or to comply with legal requirements. If you enable the Samsung Internet News Push or Quick Suggest features, we may provide certain information about your Samsung Internet browsing history and certain Web page content to third-party business partners and content providers to provide you with interest-based advertising and recommendations.

In addition, we may share personal information we collect through Samsung Internet at your request. Samsung, our subsidiaries and affiliates, and our third-party service providers also may disclose information about you (1) if we are required to do so by law or legal process (such as a court order or subpoena); (2) in response to requests by government agencies, such as law enforcement authorities; (3) to establish, exercise or defend our legal rights; (4) when we believe disclosure is necessary or appropriate to prevent physical or other harm or financial loss; (5) in connection with an investigation of suspected or actual illegal activity; (6) in the event we sell or transfer all or a portion of our business or assets (including in the event of a merger, acquisition, reorganization, dissolution or liquidation); or (7) otherwise with your consent.

Notice To California Residents

Subject to certain limits under California law, California residents may ask us to provide them with (1) a list of certain categories of personal information we have disclosed to third parties for their direct marketing purposes during the immediately preceding calendar year and (2) the identity of those third parties. To make this request, California residents may contact us as specified in the How to Contact Us section below.

Samsung Internet may provide the ability to access other websites, devices, apps, features, products and services, which may operate independently from Samsung Internet and may have their own privacy notices or policies, which we strongly suggest you review. To the extent any linked website, device, app, feature, product or service is not owned or controlled by Samsung Internet, we are not responsible for its content, any use of the website, device, app, feature, product or service or the privacy practices of the operator of the website, device, app, feature, product or service.

Your Choices

We offer you certain choices in connection with the personal information we obtain about you. Please visit your Samsung Internet Privacy/Extension settings for choices that may be available to you in relation to the collection, use and sharing of certain information and receiving marketing information and communications about products, services and promotions. Please note that if you decline to allow Samsung Internet to collect, store or share certain information, you may not be able to use all of the features available through Samsung Internet.

How We Protect Personal Information

We maintain administrative, technical and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information we obtain through Samsung Internet against accidental, unlawful or unauthorized destruction, loss, alteration, access, disclosure or use.

Children's Personal Information

Samsung Internet is designed for a general audience and is not directed to children. Samsung Internet does not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from children under the age of 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under age 13, we will promptly delete that information. If you believe that a child under age 13 may have provided us with personal information, please contact us as specified in the How to Contact Us section of this U.S. Privacy Notice.

Updates to Our Privacy Notice

This U.S. Privacy Notice may be updated periodically and without prior notice to you to reflect changes in our personal information practices with respect to Samsung Internet. We will indicate at the top of this U.S. Privacy Notice when it was most recently updated.
