SDC23 Preview: SmartThings Matter/Hub Features for Developers

Join us at SDC23 on October 5th and check out various SmartThings features for developers! At SDC23, we're going to introduce the technical characteristics of Matter, which has become a popular choice for global companies recently, explain how Matter standards are applied to the SmartThings platform and new features developed in the process, as well as showcase new APIs for our partners. You can also find out about the Hub Everywhere strategy by Samsung Electronics and get a first-hand experience of replacing a hub or connecting multiple hubs into a single network right there in the exhibition space. Compute Platform Considerations for 6G vRAN

As 5G coverage rapidly increases, vRAN (Virtualized Radio Access Network) is drawing a significant amount of attention in the telecommunications industry. While custom hardware has played a key role in achieving the desired performance level in conventional RAN deployments, using vRAN based on COTS (commercial-off-the-shelf) servers can provide flexibility and scalability required for operators and reduce TCO (total cost of ownership). It is expected that vRAN deployment will play an essential role from the point 6G is commercialized.

This article discusses various processing requirements of 6G vRAN and the latest cutting-edge computing technologies that can solve them, and analyzes if there has been sufficient development in technology to meet the requirements of 6G computing. MOCKS: Research on Multilingual Open Custom Keyword Spotting Testset

Advances in solutions based on speech recognition have made voice communication with technology a natural part of our daily lives, from virtual assistants like Bixby to infotainment systems in vehicles.

Major voice assistant services currently let you start a conversation with designated keywords. With Custom Keyword Spotting, you can specify how you want to address your voice assistant, based on your individual needs and preferences. For instance, instead of "Hi, Bixby!", you can say "Hello, Sunshine!" to start a conversation with your voice assistant whenever you want. While implementing this feature adds convenience, there are challenges that come with preparing a system that can recognize all the keywords you set with high accuracy. First Light of the AI/ML Empowered RAN in 3GPP

The communication network encounters the challenges of the increasingly stringent key performance indicators to support emerging applications. From the point of view of operators, the management cost for traditional human-machine interaction is heavy to reach the objective. To solve the above dilemma, Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Machine Learning (ML) is suggested as a technique for strengthening system automation.

AI/ML for NG-RAN is the first attempt of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) to explore the use of Artificial Intelligence in radio access networks. The solutions for three use cases are being specified in 3GPP Release 18: Energy saving, Load balancing, and Mobility optimization. Learn more about this on the Samsung Research blog.
