Samsung Health Partner Day: Discussing Future of Digital Healthcare
"Samsung Health Partner Day" was held on May 28. Samsung Health Partner Day is a space for exchange where Samsung Electronics and healthcare industry leaders gather and discuss the vision for Samsung Health and how to collaborate to expand the digital health ecosystem. More than 200 stakeholders including healthcare companies, medical institutions, and investment firms attended this event.
The Samsung Health Partner Day featured sessions from Samsung Health, partners, VCs, exhibitions, and networking sessions which presented what the future of digital healthcare might look like. Samsung Health's digital healthcare technologies and their unique features were explained in a session with Samsung Electronics' Digital Health team. In addition, a variety of sessions were held including a panel discussion on the topic "Digital Healthcare and AI," real-world partner collaboration cases, and a VC panel discussion where investors expressed their opinions. Object-conditioned Bag of Instances (OBoI) for Few-Shot Personalized Instance Recognition
As smart devices become more ubiquitous in everyday life, their users expect the vision systems mounted on such devices to provide personalized object detection. For example, they might want their robot vacuum cleaner to monitor their pets' behaviour or stay away from any pets that get scared by the vacuum cleaner noises.
Nonetheless, users may not appreciate the inconvenience of having to provide extensive data and feedback for it to happen.
To address this, we're introducing a new approach called OBoI, which stands for Object-conditioned Bag of Instances. OBoI is a new object detection model capable of recognizing personal instances, and unlike conventional approaches, it performs well even with a limited amount of data. OBoI recognizes personalized instances with backpropagation-free mechanisms, and works efficiently even on mobile devices. Experimental results showed that its recognition accuracy was higher than that of previous approaches. CSA Releases Matter 1.3 Specification and SDK for Smart Home IoT Standardization
CSA, an alliance for global smart home standards, released Matter 1.3 specification and the SDK in May. The most outstanding functionality in this update is “Scenes,” which allows you to control the settings of various IoT devices simultaneously. For example, you can set up Sleep mode to control your lights, curtains, fans, etc., all at once. It also supports new types of appliances such as microwaves, ovens, and cooktops, enhancing your kitchen automation and integration. Samsung Research is actively participating in developing Matter specifications, as well as contributing to the constant development of Matter and improving various IoT device experiences in the ecosystem including SmartThings. ASGrasp: Generalizable Transparent Object Reconstruction and 6-DoF Grasp Detection from RGB-D Active Stereo Camera
There has been enormous progress in object grasping technology for robots in recent years, but commercial depth sensors fail to accurately sense transparent and specular objects. This article introduces ASGrasp, a new framework for better depth estimation of transparent objects and grasping detection using raw infrared observation from an active stereo camera, commonly found in commercial products. The key idea of ASGrasp is to utilize RGB and infrared (IR) images simultaneously; the invention is a learning-based stereo matching network that combines the IR image with an object's depth information and the IR images that carry shape information.
