Beta Test FAQ

The following questions are related to proceeding beta test in the Samsung Apps TV Seller Office.

Beta testing is to first distribute the beta to the end user before the application is officially released to get a usability assessment of the new features and identify problems.

Alpha testing is to distribute the alpha version in the process of developing and testing the application to the developer's TV to download/install it in real environments and test it to see if it works as intended. This differs from a beta test, which is distributed to the actual users, and this alpha testing service is exclusively available to partner sellers.

No, as closed beta testing is a principle, so you can only install beta on a TV that is certified with the beta test activation code.

When the beta test is ready, you should download the activation code from the TV Seller Office and distribute it to the beta tester. For more information on beta test activation codes, see the Beta Test Activation Codes guide.

When distributing the beta version, Samsung's verification test is not performed. However, after registering beta test information, you must obtain approval from Samsung Content Manager to prepare for the beta test.

Since the beta version is distributed without going through Samsung's precise verification test, it is recommended that the application be fully verified and distributed within the development company.

The use of Beta Test service is done at your own discretion and risk and with agreement that you will be solely responsible for any damage to your device or loss of data that results from such activities. Samsung will not be liable for any damages that result from your use of the service.

Yes, it's possible. It is possible to conduct beta tests in different versions depending on the model group.

For example, you can create one beta test in the A and B model groups with version 1.0.1, and another beta test in the C and D model groups with version 1.0.2.

  1. Create a beta test in the TV Seller Office. You can create it after you plan on which TV model group you will distribute the beta version to, how many testers will perform the beta test, and how long you will continue the beta test. For more information, see the Creating Beta Test guide.

  2. Application development company should recruit beta testers on their own and provide a path to receive feedback.

  3. Once the beta test you have created has been approved, the activation code required to proceed with the beta test will be issued. The beta version can only be installed on TVs certified with the activation code. You should download the activation code from the TV Seller Office and distribute it to the beta tester. For more information, see the Beta Test Activation Codes guide.

The beta tester will participate in the beta test in the following process.

  1. On the TV's Settings screen, enter the hidden key "134678" with the remote to display the activation code input window. Enter the beta test activation code received from the application development company to authenticate.

  2. Enter the beta test activation code received from the application development company to authenticate. Click the More "..." button to see the precautions for installing beta and participating in beta testing. The "Install" button is activated and the beta version can be installed, only if the beta tester agrees to this.

  3. Once beta tester have completed the beta installation, they can open it immediately to participate in the beta test.

For more information, see the Participating in Beta Test guide.

Once the beta test you have created has been approved, the activation code required to proceed with the beta test will be issued. You can download the issued code from the TV Seller Office. It is provided in the form of a csv text file, so the application development company can process it directly and use it.

Activation codes are distinguished from each other by using a unique prefix for each beta test, and one activation code is used as a one-time when user activates the corresponding beta test. Once the tester has the activation code and has been certified on TV and has completed the beta installation, the code will be treated as used and will not be available again.

For more information, see the Beta Test Activation Codes guide.

Yes, it's possible. Up to 100,000 additional activation codes can be issued.

Once you have issued additional activation codes, you will need to download the activation code list again.

For more information, see the Beta Test Activation Codes guide.

Yes, it's possible. After creating a beta test, you can freely change the version in the 'Beta Test under Approval' state before it is approved. After the beta test is approved, you can only upgrade to the higher version. You cannot modify it to a lower version.

If you submit an upgraded beta version during beta testing, the beta version installed on the tester's TV will be automatically updated to the latest version.

For more information, see the To Modify Beta Test Information guide.
