FAQ

This page contains Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) regarding Universal Metadata Database (UMD).

Q. Can I use plain text, XLS(X), or CSV files for feed sharing?
A. No. Only gzip-compressed XML or JSON files are supported.

Q. I only have iconic images for my shows/movies. Is that acceptable under the Samsung spec?
A. Yes. The images just need to meet the minimum resolution requirement, though higher-resolution images are preferred for a better user experience.

Q. Can I update my content catalog in real time?
A. No. Real-time feed updates are not currently supported, but we are considering supporting this feature in the near future.

Q. Can I partially update my feed?
A. Yes. Delta feed updates are supported. For more details, see Delta Update.

Q. How often can I update my feed?
A. By default, we fetch the full feed from your agreed storage location once a day and the delta feed every 2 hours.

Q. When does Samsung fetch my feed?
A. It depends on each content provider (CP). The fetching schedule is decided when you start providing your feed.

Q. I do not manage exact release/air dates for my TV shows/movies. How should I fill in the release_date field?
A. The release_date field is optional. You can omit it if you do not have the release date.

Q. How does the deeplink work? Can I get the deeplink implementation specification for Samsung's content discovery services (such as Universal Guide and Search)?
A. Normally, your application on Samsung Smart TV shows its own main page when launched from the application launcher.
However, once your content metadata is integrated according to the feed specification, your application can also be launched from Samsung's content discovery services, such as Universal Guide or Integrated Search. In this case, your application is launched with a payload indicating a specific content item, and your application must either show that content's page or play the content directly.
To support launching from content discovery services, provide a "deeplink_payload" value for each PlaybackItem. This value is passed to your application when it is launched through a deeplink.
Samsung Business Development (BD) manager or Technical Account Manager (TAM) shares the detailed deeplink implementation specification with you after the BD meeting. You can also contact yewon25.seo@samsung.com and je.hyun@samsung.com to request it.

Q. Can I ingest scheduled OTT content?
A. This feature will be supported soon. If you would like support for it, contact yewon25.seo@samsung.com and je.hyun@samsung.com.
